Herrell`s Ice Cream & Bakery in Nortdampton

I've been going to this ice cream shop since I was five or six years old. They have a great selection of flavors and a cozy dining space.

Perfect !!👌🏽 that’s the word to describe the place!! They have a website where people can check on the flavors available before coming to the spot, which is awesome!! Their ice cream 🍦 are delicious by the way! There’s enough to welcome a good number of customers too.

I found the texture of the ice cream unappealing. Gummy almost. Made me wonder what makes it so. Did not taste natural. I'm sure many people may enjoy that- I personally did not care for the texture or flavor. Comfortable atmosphere. Nice service.

Amazing local ice cream.Pros: the flavors are so inventive and delicious, and they span the gamut from the familiar like mudpie, and malted vanilla, to the truly wild such as walnut date halva, or banana curry. The baker's choice when they have it is amazing, as they just mix in their own delicious baked goods.Other pros: Great vegan options, amazing sauces, good baked goods. Everything is homemade and that makes a big difference. Try the Penuche sauce, it's a very rich browned butter and sugar sauce, I recommend it with banana ice cream: it was like bananas foster.Cons: the ice cream is a bit higher sugar content that I would like. This makes it a softer texture as well. Really it's a pretty minor downside when the flavors are so delicious.

I grew up in the area and have so many fond memories of this place! Visiting again as an adult was lovely, as the quality and taste of their products are still phenomenal. Absolutely love that they are now making non dairy ice cream now too! Cannot recommend this place highly enough!

Five star ice cream shop in my hometown. When in NoHo, go here for dessert. Steve, the founder, has retired, and the shop has been nicely renovated. It's still in the family and still makes wonderful ice cream. Kudos for being a long time small business running successfully in Northampton. Buy ice cream here!

Kiddie sundae, vanilla ice cream, hot fudge, regular whipped cream. That's what I always get. Free sundae on your birthday with ID. Very nice staff, excellent ice cream and baked goods. Kosher kitchen!

This is a must if you’re in NoHo! Burnt sugar and butter is a staple on the menu, while other options such as PB&J or butternut are in rotation. Definitely stop in and enjoy yourself. I lose all self control here... and I don’t even mind!

The ice cream was excellent! The flavor options are a great mix of tradition favorites and unique combinations. Will be returning to try a few more of their ice creams. Their prices though are steep. Over $4.00 for a 4 ounce serving of ice cream.

Herrell's is always a good go-to if you're feeling like some ice cream. Definitely a Northampton staple.

Great ice cream and service with a smile

Loved the place. It was super clean. The shop is always busy in a good way, meaning the line goes fast. My only take about the place is them not taking the orders on a paper. I ordered for four people and three of them were wrong. The taste though got us to forget completely about the mistake. The texture of the ice-cream was terrific, it was churned to the point of perfection. Also the prices were reasonable comparing to taste. Good place to hang out with friends and family.

This used to be a great place but ever since it changed hands all of the magic is gone along with the quality of the ice cream and sorbet, which now tastes like cardboard.

A local institution, community-minded, and always, always worth the wait if there is one on a summer night. Great staff!

No matter your age there's something about ice cream for dessert. Herrell's doesn't disappoint. Rich, creamy and local....lots of choices and the prices are reasonable..... 2 scoops in your choice of cones or cups for $4.69. We were there on a busy Saturday night the staff was friendly and kept they line moving..... Worth the wait

The six feet apart was a little difficult but everyone in the store had masks on, both workers and customers. Fast service and back out the door.

We came here later in the evening sometime in August and it was still very busy. Place is very popular. Staff was clean and friendly. Now, they've got you covered on all sorts of flavors. We had burnt sugar and butter and some strawberry and chocolate and THE ICECREAM WAS amazing! We were able to sit down and enjoy the deliciousness by a window that had the views of the Old street. It was great, and well come back again! Thank you.

Best place ever for a birthday ice cream! Long line on weekends, but it moves fast due to friendly and efficient staff. The chocolate with raspberry swirl was sloop chocolatey. Also has dairy-free, No Moo creamy delights.

Soooo delicious! We got the espresso chocolate chip with classic whipped cream and the burnt butter & sugar with classic whipped cream. Both were so good and the staff was super helpful.

Ordered a medium size which comes w 2 scoops and it literally looked like one scoop. Ice cream was Gooey, which I am not sure if that’s the usual texture.Staff was friendly but I will not be returning due to the poor quality and quantity of ice cream.

Waiting in a long line with my wife for her birthday to get some ice cream. The employee had a attitude for no reason and kept giving us bad looks then proceeding to serve everyone in line before us 5 people after telling her we have been in the front of the line for 10 minutes. I’m sure they have good Ice cream...But I will never come here again after being treated like this.

Great little ice cream shop.

I went there this past Sunday and I think there is an opportunity for Herrell's to go over some basics with their staff. When serving the public, there should be one person handling the register only and not handling both the register and serving the food. There should also be more of an awareness when the employees are serving the public to not scratch any part of their own bodies and then handle the food. Hand sanitizer would help. Thank you.

Incredible ice cream. Probably my favorite place to get ice cream. The warm cookie sundae is amazing. Also, the hot fudge and whip cream are incredible. Located in the heart of Northampton so there is plenty to see and do in the surrounding area.

I can’t attest for the dairy based ice cream, but my boyfriend got the chocolate “no moo” and I got the vanilla & cookies “no moo.” I also tried the burnt caramel. The ice cream was so strangely gooey! When the person went to scoop it, the ice cream stretched from the container up to the cone like I was watching a cheese pull video. The texture was so strange, my boyfriend thought his was kind of gritty, mine was icy and squishy and super sweet. If I hadn’t of already sampled two and felt guilty we wouldn’t have gotten any. I am glad they had the dairy free option, just wish it had been a bit better. The shop’s aesthetics were nice and staff was helpful. There should probably one person in charge of the register and one person in charge of scooping to help keep things sanitary.

I tried this place for the first time yesterday. It may seem a bit pricey on the menu, but you are definitely getting your money's worth. Ordered the brownie bowl sundae and I couldn't even finish it. Great place and staff as well! Will definitely be returning.

So many flavors it can be overwhelming. They let you try a lot of them and honestly Herrell's really tries to create new and unique flavors which sometimes can fall flat. The classic ones are really the way to go. They also allow for very small portions so if you want a bit of ice cream to fill your sweet tooth without feeling really bad, this is the place to go

So excited to go back to one of our favorite ice cream places! It will be a planned stop for the 4th weekend. They have wonderful ice cream, great kids working and all in beautiful downtown Northampton. Thanks for all the great memories.

Each time we visit Northampton we try to stop at Herrell's for what we consider New England's best ice cream. Herrell's is one of the several reasons we are relocating from eastern Massachusetts to Northampton in 2020. The last two visits to Herrell's it was Malted Vanilla for me. Wow!

Rude, mouthy, and passive aggressive are the most positive ways I can describe the staff. Ice cream isn't as good as they think it is either.

I have never had homemade banana ice cream except for here. It is incredible. The freshest ice cream the most flavorful ice cream I've ever had totally worth the money

Good ice cream with smoosh ins from a store run by the guy that started Steve's ice cream. It's a nice treat although I'm not sure it's worth the wait as the quality is similar to places like Cold Stone and Ben & Jerrys.

Still the best ice cream. There is something for everyone. During these crazy times, Herrell's has been doing a great job. Going again this weekend!

This is the birthplace of the ice cream smoosh-in, where Reese's Peanut Butter Cups, fruits, nuts or other mix-ins found their way into creamy base flavors long before the emergence of Cold Stones and Marble Slabs. This type of innovation remains today, as Herrell's rotates through nearly 200 different flavors. Whereas some of these flavors were first concocted over 30 years ago (like Malted Vanilla and Chocolate Pudding), new and different flavors emerge all the time (such as a frosty Root Beer)!
